As we look at the seven different areas of life, Family is probably the one area that we wish to be the most important.
Sure, what we do for work matters. Which friends we hang out with matters. How we pursue our faith matters. How much joy we have each day matters. How we handle our money matters a lot. How healthy we are in our minds and bodies matters too.
Yet it’s our Family who we want to spend more time with, isn’t it?
It’s our Family who we dream about taking on that special vacation, who we envision retiring with, who we work for and provide for every single day.
Our Family becomes our driving force for working hard in this season of life so that we can rest and celebrate and savor the next season of life with them.
Yet our Family can also be the ones who drives us the most crazy!
They are the ones who see our dark side when we are tired or stressed or overwhelmed with this season of life.
We aren’t always as patient with our Family as we are with others.
Our Family doesn’t always get our best, because we have given our best to other responsibilities.
While our Family draws us toward our best, future-driven goals, we can let them draw out our worst.
In this way, Family creates an interesting phenomenon in our lives.
They call out our best, yet they receive our worst.
How do we flip that and give them our best in this season?
It may be impossible to give them our best energy, because our work requires that.
It may be impossible to give them the majority of our time.
Yet could you give them the best with the energy and time you do have to give them?
How could you show up differently after work?
How could you prepare yourself on the way home to be your best for them?
Because they are the reason you're working so hard.
Make the mental shift before you show up, so that you can be your best in each moment you do have with them.
Be intentional with the time you have, because the years are going to fly by!
